Musings on Heartbreaks and City Lights

We hang our heads to watch the stars below
Because the city night sky is empty.
Someone must have taken them all, you know?
Cast them down to earth for you and me.
But the stars on the ground don’t shine as much
As the ones that once lit up the night sky.
Still, our souls intertwine and our hearts touch,
Like meeting each other for the first time.
Sand is slipping quickly through our fingers.
We know of no goodbye; only hello.
The shadow of yesterday still lingers;
We grasp at fragments, afraid to let go.
The stars beneath our feet no longer glow.
But I know the sun will rise tomorrow.
